So much better than I expected. The last 1/3 of the album isnt very good but the first 2/3 make up for it to me.

Well, it's not as bad as the last two albums. He kilt a couple verses. The beats are mostly wack and there aren't any genuine bangers. "Hate" is dope. "Off That" is pretty dope.

It's a wannabe-Kanye album and it almost succeeds.

And not for nothing, but Jim Jones kinda already made this album (without the fancy help)...

songs that i like:

What We Talkin' About (great pattern on the second verse)
Thank You
D.O.A
Run This Town (sans chorus)
On To The Next One (i really like swizz beatz's new direction with sampling, it's a really interesting case study to see a dude just now attempting to use samples after solely using casio presets and shit)
Already Home (this is a genuinely great track)
Hate (i can see most people not liking this but i think it's hot. love kanye's style at the beginning and the beat is very interesting with the vowel analog synth pitching)
So Ambitious

the rest of it is unlistenable

much better than i expected

Thank You is dope.
Empire State of Mind is dope, Alicia sounds great.
Real As It Gets is dope.
On To The Next One is annoying as hell.
Venus vs. Mars aint shit.
the beat for Already Home is my favorite and buggin me out right now.
Hate is entertaining.
Reminder beat is dope.
So Ambitious has Pharrell on it so boo.
Forever Young sounds too gay even for Kanye.
rest is ah. albums more enjoyable than i expected though.

Reminds me of Vol 1, - couple great songs, some garbage, not something I'll ever play all the way thru again. "A Star Is Born" is the exact opposite of "Takeover"": shitty beat, awful chorus, not much happening lyrically. It is good to hear Memphis Bleek's son (credited under the name J Cole) showing up to add absolutely nothing to the track. Like father like son.

this is a lot better than i expected. it shits on Kingdom Come at least (which isn't hard to do i guess). I mainly like the first half of this album. Obviously, Jay ain't what he use to be, but I wouldn't say he fell off. There's so many rappers I can think of that aren't even half as dope as they use to be. Even the weak spots lyrically are better than most rappers...

Really? Vol. 1? Can't see it.

Not the best of the whole Blueprint series. Got a few tracks like the ones blastmaster named off. I really fucks with "Reminder", even though its a track with auto-tune on it and he's got a song called "D.O.A." on it which made give a :naswtf: for a quick sec. Can't listen to "Haters"; not a fan of that track......

exactly

some of these beats are embarassingly bad. a few of the songs had killer verses and then the hook comes in and ruins them.

i'm extremely disappointed in this album. way worse than expected.

The only thing worse than Jay-Z's music in 2009 are message board threads about Jay-Z in 2009.

Some (most) of you decided that it sucks before you heard the album. It's very good for a 2009 Jay-z album, whatever that means to you.

Read this thread...went in with lowered expectations...so ended up kind of liking this on first listen. I get the complaints, this album is all over the place and some of the production is not good. But I like Already Home, What We Talkin' About, Thank You, D.O.A and So ambitious. Would have liked Hate, cause I like the beat and Jay-z on it...but Kanye makes this too annoying to listen to again.
