i think the settlement was 8 million and companies do this shit ALL the time. i have a friend who has a modest business and settled for 100K on some shit he knew did not happen but could not prove it. its not like you could run tests like rape cases. larger corporates settle in the millions daily on some shit like this.

the damage and $ that would have cost jackson had this case went to course would have been closer to 200M. he would be officially over. legacy out the window. he'd never be able to work again.

The allegation alone is enough to decimate anyone's prospects at a normal life. Decimate. Pulverize. I'm not sure I can think of another stigma (maybe the Ginger stigma) worse than that. If you know for a fucking fact you didn't play Tickle the Taint with an eight-year-old, you do what Alaska said: Use that hush money to buy a supreme legal team and vindicate yourself on the world's platform. It was 8 figures, not 8 mill. I think the 22 mill number is accurate. Not that it makes that much difference. You don't pay 8 million to plea out of a charge like this either, too damaging. It's admitting guilt of some kind on a public level, and he had to know it would permanently damage his legacy. If the kid didn't have the goods, Jacko definitely could've gotten off (:pause:). People wanted to believe Michael didn't do that shit. And it's completely different from a company buying somebody out of a sexual harassment suit. Those stigmas don't have anywhere near the kind of damaging effect that being branded a lifetime pedophile does.

It'd be great to see the man's name cleared, and I hope that does happen. But blogs and tweets don't equal = not guilty.
