I like Elzhi and think these snippets sound good. But if you're gonna do some shit like this, at least don't rhyme over the hook and ad-libs. Mad sloppy, but the rhymes are good. Unless he's gonna re-do that shit, I can't stand when people rhyme over the hook.
And the whole tribute thing is getting played out real fast.
Just do a real album. If you use this to help put yourself out there, just don't rhyme over the got damn hook!! Have the instrumental edited to fit your rhyme scheme or something. Jesus.

I can't understand the double standards that MCs are held to. Sure, this is kinda lazy, but it's not like he's calling it a real album - and he is working on a follow-up The Preface, and another couple of real projects. It's just a mixtape type deal, right?

There are numerous rappers who put out mixtape after mixtape of sloppy "verses" over existing beats. Wayne for example... he has over seventeen trillion mixtapes of him making constipated-sounding grunts, but then lots of people really enjoyed Carter 3. What's the difference, apart from this will have better beats than ny of those mixtapes, and a better rapper?

I think most peoples problem with it is that its Illmatic and it looks like he's attaching his name to one of the most popular albums of the genre just to get some attention, rather than doing something creative.

I doubt he ever considered redoing Nastradmus or Gods Son which he could probably improve on.

Elzhi is killing those verses.

still I would rather hear Elzhi maybe hook up with a talented producer who could possibly create some beats with an illmatic feel to them or some shit, something a little more creative than just kicking verses over Illmatic beats.

i'm just spouting off ideas, this will be dope, but if dude has serious talent, he should challenge himself a little more I guess.
That's what I'm saying... I don't wanna hear this if he's just rapping over the original instrumentals. If he got wit Blackmilk or something and had him makin new versions flipping the original samples I'd be into it. But just writin to the original beats? That's too easy.

Could be an ill project if Elzhi sticks to the concepts of the original songs, and adds his own twist, at least for songs like "Life's a Bitch", "Memory Lane", "One Love", etc...He definitely has the talent to flip it in his own way.
But if he's just spitting random verses over all 10 instrumentals, I don't see what the big deal is.

yea if he sticks to the concepts and even expands on them further, I think it could be potentially great

but if he is rhyming over hooks and adlibs and shit fuck that

Jay Elec's Tribute To Nas, "My World" is the most original, illest Nas Tribute Ive ever heard. This Elzhi shit is striaght, but I knida expect more. I agree with the cat who said ull always go for the OG album over the tribute album that dedicated to it in the the future.

Exactly. Sounds like it's a waste of time for him to make this. I'll check for it, but he needs better original music. When the tour-only mixtape you release is better than your debut album, the last thing you should be worrid about is a tribute album.

Elzhi will be irrelevant before this ever comes out if he is only focusing on this, and not new material.

I'm going to remake a notoriously bad album for the challenge of it and see where that gets me.

What's a good all-time loathing point?
