Nah. Getting old is less conducive to making good music.Thun wrote:Right. And less conducive to making good music, apparently.Icesickle wrote:Thun wrote: 2. Dres is basically an honorary member of De La Soul when they go on tour but 8mm wasn't near as good as Tip's album.
Tip still has it though. The only rapper with that much time in the game that's putting out albums that are as good as Renaissance is Scarface.

Do you realize this is Tip's first album in 10 years? I know he made some half-ass Maxwell attempt that never saw the light of day, but this is his first album in a DECADE.
Besides a few charity verses he's done for his buddies; see Pharrell, R.E.M., Large Professor and Busta, Tip has been AWOL for a very very long time.
Scarface never left. Never fell-off and his quality is still up to par on a consistent level year after year. In fact, many will say he got better as he got older. I've always been a huge Tip fan, which is why his work ethics have always bothered me. I got into with Ali Shaheed about this at Rock The Bells. Q-Tip is so far removed from this music. Thun is right, he rather pal around with Leonardo and Lucas Haas than call up Paul Mitchell to discuss trade secrets or venture out into the diggin world. He wants to be a red carpet star.
That said I'm sure there is a grip of people from the late '80's who have put out better music than Tip (solo work).

With the respect that aging rappers that don't traffic in street/drug rap (see Fat Joe and Jay-Z) are getting in this current musical climate, do you blame him for not putting all of his eggs in the hif-hoff basket and wanting to pal around with models and the biggest movie star on the planet?
What incentive does he have to put out new music? He's already obviously well off financially and already is recognizable and respected because of his past work. Why should he put all his effort into putting out new music? Even when he does put new stuff out that's good (see "Gettin Up," "Work it Out," this song) it never gets 1/100 of the shine the new Soulja Boy song about kissing a girl through a cell phone gets on MTV or the radio?
