the official Kanye West: 808's And Heartbreak thread

Post by Mindbender Futurama »

here we go...

:killacam:

[quote]808s & Heartbreak is the upcoming fourth studio album by American hip hop artist Kanye West. The album is scheduled to be released on November 24, 2008. West announced on his blog that he has finished the album. It was originally announced for a December 16 release, but Island Def Jam brought the date forward three weeks to capitalize on Thanksgiving weekend. A special Christmas packaging of the album will be released on a December 16 and will feature album artwork redone by Kaws.
Contents

Concept

The entire album is sung by West with the aid of Auto-Tune, aside from one verse by Young Jeezy, a duet with Lil Wayne, additional vocals by Kid Cudi and a freestyle by West at the conclusion of the record. West has stated that he loves using Auto-Tune and is dismayed that the term has been commonly associated with being "wack." He considers the technology "the funnest thing to use." West compared the situation to when he was a child and thought the color pink was cool until someone told him "it was gay." He went on to state how the views of society can rob people of their confidence and self-esteem.

West classified 808s & Heartbreak as pop music and expressed that, "People think pop is bad, but Michael Jackson was pop and who can compare to him?" He later stated that he wishes to present the music as a new genre called "pop art", not to be confused with the visual art movement of the same name.

West revealed that the song "Coldest Winter" is about his late mother, Donda West, who passed away in 2007. He also stated that the other songs on the album deal with another person he was close to, but had not specified a name. This person was speculated to be West's ex-fianc

I can't even front.
taking in the entire experience... I have to admit: this album doesn't sound bad, you know.

I'm at Love Lockdown, and it sounds... decent.

The united vibe of all these songs makes them sound better. And the first song on the album I think I like better than the first song on the last album...

dude is gonna fuck the game up with this album.

I have to say that I am a HUGE Kanye West fan. I love everything that he has done... musically, anyway.

With that out of the way, I am about half way through this new album and it is absolutely terrible. Like seriously, what the fuck? I know he said that the whole album would sound like this.. but I was hoping that he was lying, or something.

I mean.. I guess some of the beats are cool, and I can listen to a few of the tracks.. but overall all that I have to say is what the fuck is he thinking. I was actually listening to Graduation earlier today. How long has it been since he made that??? 10 years? How he went from that great album to this in one year in beyond me.

I just wish there was more rap on it. But musically, I don't mind it...

we'll see if I want to hear it in 2 weeks though.

yeah... now that i'm done with this album, i'll say it's cool, but i'm not gonna be jamming to it for the next 3 months, that's for sure.

kanye's gonna get a gang of new fans, and lose a bunch of old fans.

i hear Apathy has a murderous freestyle over 'Love Lockdown' :killacam: :upload:

people sure can take this 808 and Heartbreak album music and remix it into iller shit though... there's some good musical ideas lingering around the album...

but it doesn't even come off as a "Lenny Kravitz - Let Love Rule" level dedication album to romance and love... it's too vague. He NEEDED to rap a bit on it but didn't.

still, this album is gonna fuck up the program.

'I HAVE A FEELING THAT THIS ALBUM HE'S GONNA MAKE A KILLING, OR NOT A SHILLING/ THIS IS LOVE IT OR HATE IT MUSIC'... defined.

one song half way thru the album sounds ALMOST PERFECTLY 80's inspired. think it's called 'Bright Lights'.

80's-tastic.

but you know how revisionist motherfuckers are these days.

it's grotesque.

technology can rape history in so many amazing ways these days

album isn't for hiphop fans.

i can see the club remix scene loving this album. melodically its real catchy. as long as this is only a one time thing, i don't mind it.

theres a preview up on imeem. tracks not yet leaked only 30 seconds long though. just from skimming it, some of the beats aint too bad. i dont understand why he cant seem to get his hands on some decent synth sounds though.

that, paired with his singing, makes this album sound very amatuerish to me. sounds like he just wanted to get whatever was on his mind at the time onto record. nothing wrong with that, but the quality of this music does not sound good. and that shits spilling over into his other production (jay-z - "history"). this will be the first kanye album i dont purchase...or even download for that matter. but i would like to listen to it in its enitirety.

none of that shit matters though cause the tight pants crowd is gonna buy the shit outta this.
