Jeru, hands down.Listen, cause for your mind
I got the right nutrition
We keeps it hard like fat asses
And cases of Heineken
Here in Brooklyn-
Home of the warrior and villain,
Trife-type chicks-
"Top Billin's," the anthem.
Rastas smoke marijuana,
Enterprising businessmen
Shoot dice on the corner.
Excuse me while I light my spliff,
But some choose to sip
So bullets hit brains
When bottles hit lips.
Clips, whatever happened
To .38 specials?
Now it's Desert Eagles
Government issue.
Probably the same one
That killed Noriega.
Chips that power nuclear bombs
Power my Sega.
Subliminal hypnotism
And colonialism
Leaves most niggas
Dead or in prison.
In Crookland, right hand
Cuts off the left hand
To spite the hand
Jealous of the next man
So violent crimes, black on black
Plus mad crack to boot
Everybody can't rap
So most hustle and shoot
Make money, money
Get money, take money
I can't understand that concept
Cause Jah rules everything around me
Fire burns the unjust like arson larsony
Melt MC's with mental telepathy
With precision, we're slicing and dicing
Peace to the East New York
Perverted Monks, and Mike Tyson
His verse is quite poetic when you break it down. Jeru's use of imagry here is superior. The scene unfolds like a scrapbook of the common Brooklyn streetscape. The rhyme scheme is simple, the quality of the rhymes themselves based on caence and assonance as opposed to the pairing of whole-word sounds. This is very much ahead of it's time in rap but yet a throwback to more classical forms of poetry studied by academics.
Also endearing is the tin-foil hat theme of the later end of his verse. Gun are bigger and kill more black youth than ever, and in the wake of reveations made about COINTELPRO program, the Tuskegee Airment expiriments, the aquital of the Rodney King officers, the active movement to Free Mumia who many feel was framed for the killing of a cop because of his black nationalism perhaps these ills have come to their eminence with some sort of governmental or clandestine collusion. Brooklyn, it's a wonderful home for a rapidly dwindling specied being hunted to the brink by the man.

Because I could have sworn you said a long time ago that Chubb was leagues of ahead of the others on this one. I'm just suprised you'd pick O.C., but given your recent endorsements maybe I shouldn't be.Paragraph President wrote:Why do you open these polls up for the public if you're already so sure of the answer?Philaflava wrote:Yeah but OC over this Chubb verse? I'm even having a hard time believing that.

I actually voted for Jeru. I thought about OC just for the mention of the Albee Square Mall which was definetly a mess back then but I think Jeru shut the door on this joint.
