So what you're saying is it's possible for a director to get better even though his movies get worse. Gotcha. I don't know if I can agree with the sentiment of this statement. A director's skill could improve, despite a continuous string of shitty scripts, poor casting choices (perhaps by the studi...

Liked it. Imagery was really beautiful. What did you shoot on? Some of the shot selection was off, though. Wondering why we didn't get a close-up of the father until half way through the movie. Also, the use of those ultra-subjective POV shots didn't really fit with the rest of your withdrawn, verit...

Horrible show. I can't wait. the acting is bad other then a couple of people. but the story is fresh. Well, the idea of the story is great, but the actual execution is constantly tripping over itself. Agree with you about the acting... I put this into the same category as Entourage: not the best fi...

There is no western more grim than the Wild Bunch. Only Lars Von Trier has produced films with more nihilism. I don't know, Searchers and Grand Silence are more downbeat i think. Cemetary Without Crosses is really dark too supposedly, i'm hesitant to pony up 40 for the dvd though Great Silence is e...

Truly Grim Movies
What are the most depressing, nihilistic, loveless, not-warm-and-fuzzy movies of all-time? I am a fan of movies that make you feel like absolute shit. I love nothing more than walking out of a theater and hating myself and humanity more than I already do. Being depressed by films is tops. So list 'e...

My point is, this is how conversations go in this forum these days: A: That movie was awesome! B: Nah, it sucked... characters were under developed. A: What are you crazy? That movie was so much fun. You film nerds take all the fun out of movies! C: Yeah dude, movies are supposed to be fun! It wasn'...

Why do people keep making threads like this? Some of you think movies are just for fun and entertainment and some of us look at it as a complex art. As someone pointed out, it's just becoming "hip hop vs. rap". I guess my real question is: to those of you who think movies "should just be fun, dude."...

How can you guys not cringe when he says "Mama always said, life is like a box of chocolates..." To me, you guys are just projecting your stereotypes of "film nerds" into this argument, like you often do. I am not critiquing the lighting, the cinematography, the structure, the acting, the mise-en-sc...

There was a time, our soph year of college, that Cas and I watched 2 movies a night everyday of the week for a couple months straight. That actually made me hate movies for a while... I had no idea what was going on in this film... I also know nothing about Bob Dylan. To enjoy this film, I think it's a requirement you have, at least, listened to a few Dylan albums and know a bit about his life. As a stand-alone movie: it was well-crafted, but there was really no story to hold on ...
